Our Kamouraska boot, shown here in red leather on our Icona sole, will be perfect to keep your feet warm all winter long — in style. Its zipper provides ease of wear, while its laces give it a classic look and precise fit. Entirely hand-crafted in Québec, Saute-Mouton boots are made with the best material available. While very versatile, these are mainly designed for city use.

The short story behind our “Kamouraska” boot

In 1947, when Quebec was still the leader in shoe manufacturing in North America, Roger Bergeron, 14, began his professional life in this industry. Starting out as a leather cutter, he quickly became an assistant pattern maker, then a pattern maker while teaching at the École de la Chaussure. Over the course of his long career, he partnered with various entrepreneurs and founded his own design studio. His undeniable talent made him the most sought-after shoe designer in the province.

In 1990, his dream of making high-quality waterproof leather winter boots with his brother Normand came true when he partnered with a businessman from the Bellechasse region. They set up the factory in St-Pascal de Kamouraska. The product, named La Botterie de Kamouraska, would provide footwear to thousands of consumers in Canada and the United States for nearly 10 years. Health problems for both of the Bergeron brothers forced them to close the factory. But a few years before, in 1997, Roger had started another project that he particularly cherished: assisting his daughter Jacinthe in starting her factory specializing in the manufacture of high-end boots for children. Saute-Mouton would see its first collection in stores in 1998.

The father-daughter bond bore fruit and the success of Saute-Mouton is no longer a secret. Roger's health deteriorated starting in 2012 and he signed his last creations in 2016. Unfortunately, he was not present to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Saute-Mouton, but we wanted to pay tribute to him and introduce you to one of his last treasures, the one he named "KAMOURASKA".
